The Trend
What's been most noticeable on social media timelines over the past 6 months?
Not "AI is so powerful" β but AI-generated memes are everywhere.
In friend group chats, family morning message groups, colleague overtime complaint threads β before, everyone had to go online to find images, add text, remove watermarks,ζθ Ύεε°ζΆ (fuss for half an hour). Now β one sentence, one minute, memes with your personal style included.
This is the final article in my 8-article GPT Image 2 series. After 64 tested cases across 8 categories, let me give you the full picture.
GPT Image 2 for memes and style transfer: its biggest value isn't "drawing well," it's lowering the barrier for ordinary people to create viral visual content.
Case 01: Meme Generation
"Monday Morning Worker" Meme
What worked: Meme generated. Content as requested β head on desk with drool, top text present.
What didn't work: "Spirit already off work" text rendered correctly but font ordinary β not that "rough meme font" feel. Overall composition slightly too clean β real memes usually have "compressed blurry" feel, AI-generated too HD, lacking that flavor.
Conclusion: Meme generation: GPT Image 2 achieves 60-70% β can express meaning but not yet "truly viral meme texture." For "spreading through WeChat groups" memes, may need some "roughness" post-processing.
Case 02: Emoji Pack Generation
"Designer Daily Life" Emoji Pack
What worked: All 6 emojis generated. Designer pain points "8th revision," "simple requirement," "will change" β AI did get these.
What didn't work: "Cute, exaggerated" β AI made "cartoon style," not real "emoji pack style" β real emoji packs usually have "meme-style fonts" and "exaggerated distorted" expressions. Compare with viral ones on WeChat, this lacks "soul."
Conclusion: Emoji direction: GPT Image 2 can do "personalized emoji packs" (generate exclusive emojis from your portrait), but "viral-grade emoji packs" need more precise meme culture understanding.
Case 03: Photo to Studio Ghibli Style
Normal Photo to Ghibli Style
What worked: Ghibli-style transfer β most stunning result in these 8 tests. Sky really became cotton candy clouds, colors fresh, big eyes, simple facial features β all achieved.
What didn't work: "Preserve original composition" β AI didn't fully achieve. It "recreated," not strict "style transfer." For "convert my photo to Ghibli-style poster," effect is good. For "preserve every detail position for precise style transfer," GPT Image 2 currently can't achieve this precision.
Conclusion: Photo to Ghibli style: one of GPT Image 2's most worth exploring directions. Ghibli style recognition and transfer effects currently can achieve "posting on Moments gets compliments" level.
Case 04: Photo to Oil Painting (Van Gogh/Monet)
Landscape to Van Gogh Oil Painting
What worked: Van Gogh style transfer also quite good. Brushwork texture, color contrast, swirling sky β "Van Gogh feel" visible.
What didn't work: "Not simple filter" β AI still somewhat like "smart filter" β understood as "add Van Gogh-style colors and brushwork," not truly "redraw by Van Gogh method." For art lovers, AI-generated "oil painting style" detail precision not as good as real oil paintings β but usable for "social media illustrations."
Conclusion: Photo to oil painting: good for "artistic illustrations" (WeChat Moments, Xiaohongshu). Definitely not for art collection level, but "giving ordinary photos an artistic touch," AI does well.
Case 05: Fortune Telling / Palm Reading
AI-Powered Palm Reading
What worked: This play: most fun and most "mysterious" in these 8 tests. AI does "analyze" your palm photo β annotating life line, wisdom line, heart line, then generating analysis report in that "palm reading master's gentle tone."
What didn't work: Obvious problem: AI isn't really "reading palms" β it's "generating something that looks like a palm reading report." As for accuracy, completely made up. If you really believe AI palm reading and make life decisions... I can only say, bold.
Conclusion: Palm reading/fortune telling: pure entertainment. GPT Image 2 generates "palm reading reports that look convincing" but between science and mysticism, I recommend choosing science.
Case 06: Old Photo Restoration + Colorization
Black & White to Colorized Vintage Photo
What worked: Old photo restoration + colorization, effect also quite good. Damage, scratches repaired, colorization roughly matching 1950-1960s color feel.
What didn't work: "Don't redraw into AI face" β AI didn't fully achieve. Restored faces somewhat have "AI-generated face common feel," not like real old photos. If placed in family album alongside real old photos, you can tell "this is AI-restored."
Conclusion: Old photo restoration + colorization: good for "family memory digitalization" warm scenario. Can't achieve 100% restoration but for "giving old photos color again," AI achieves "touching family members" level.
Case 07: Real Person to Anime Character
Real Photo to Anime Style Avatar
What worked: Real to anime, effect also quite good. Big eyes, simple facial features, clear outlines β Japanese anime feel present.
What didn't work: "Preserve person features" β AI achieved halfway. Face shape may be preserved but eyes and expression become "anime-ized." For "you and family members can immediately recognize" anime character, currently AI not precise enough for "high-fidelity feature preservation."
Conclusion: Real to anime: good for "personal avatar customization" (convert your photo to anime style for WeChat avatar). For "high-fidelity feature preservation" illustrations, recommend finding professional artists.
Case 08: Fake Chat Record Image
WeChat Chat Record Screenshot Generator
What worked: Fake chat record generated. iOS WeChat interface, avatars, timestamps β roughly present.
What didn't work: "Convincingly fake" β AI understood as "generate image that looks like chat record" but detail precision not enough. Timestamp font, avatar style β look closely differ from real WeChat. For "joking post to Moments," people who know may immediately spot "this is AI-generated fake chat record."
Conclusion: Fake chat record generation: good for "sarcasm/joke illustrations." For "deceiving people in groups," currently precision not enough.
The Verdict
GPT Image 2's biggest value isn't generating professional content, but enabling ordinary people to create interesting visual content.
Before, making a meme required finding images, adding text, adjusting colors, removing watermarks. Now, spend 30 seconds writing a prompt, see 4 options in 1 minute.
This lowered barrier has enormous significance for "ordinary people wanting to participate in visual creation."
My recommended workflow: Clarify the meme/style you want β Write clear prompt (refer to prompts above) β Generate multiple versions, pick best β For social media posts, can add some "roughness" post-processing (like Meitu filter).
Summary Table
| Case | Type | Rating | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Meme Generation | 3/5 | WeChat chat illustrations, viral texture needs post-processing |
| 02 | Emoji Pack | 4/5 | Personalized emoji packs, viral needs optimization |
| 03 | Photo to Ghibli | 5/5 | Most worth exploring direction, stunning effect |
| 04 | Photo to Oil Painting | 4/5 | Artistic illustrations, good for social sharing |
| 05 | Palm Reading | 2/5 | Pure entertainment, don't make decisions based on it |
| 06 | Old Photo Restoration | 4/5 | Family memory digitalization, warm scenario |
| 07 | Real to Anime | 4/5 | Personal avatar customization, feature retention needs optimization |
| 08 | Fake Chat Records | 3/5 | Joke illustrations, not convincing enough to deceive |
8-Article Series Summary
From UI generation to meme style transfer, 64 tested cases across 8 categories.
Core conclusion is only one:
GPT Image 2 isn't here to replace designers, but to lower the "visual creation barrier."
What only designers could do before, now ordinary people can also produce "usable" visual content.
But to make "good," "precise," "consistent" visual content β designer value actually increases.
